APPA will offer a Webinar Tuesday, July 7 on Smart Grid Grant Opportunities for public power utilities. The Webinar will take place from 12:00 p.m to 1:30 p.m. Eastern time. The Department of Energy announced June 25 that it is seeking applicants for $3.9 billion in grants to support modernization of the U.S. electric grid.  The Webinar will look at the details of the funding opportunity notices for the  Smart Grid Investment Program (DE-FOA-0000058) and Smart Grid Demonstrations (DE-FOA-0000036). The investment grant program is intended to enable smart grid functions on the electric system as soon as possible, while the demonstration program is aimed at identifying and developing new and more cost-effective smart grid equipment, tools, techniques, and system configurations that can significantly improve upon todays technologies.
 
Jeffrey C. Genzer, a principle with the law firm Duncan, Weinberg, Genzer & Pembroke, and Ted Kelly, principal and senior project manager with consulting firm Burns & McDonnell will be the panelist.  Mike Hyland, APPA's vice president of engineering services, will be the moderator.
